What is it?

Black Friday is an annual shopping tradition that originated in the US. Traditionally, Black Friday was the day after Thanksgiving. The reason why it’s called Black Friday is that this time of the year traditionally signified the point at which retailers moved from the red and into the ‘black’ (meaning they began to make a profit).

In the US, this is one of the busiest shopping days of the year. In recent years, the concept has spread to retailers around the world. Black Friday is no longer a day, many stores start having Black Friday sales long before the day itself.

What can I expect?

Deep discounts. A lot of them. A lot of stores participate in Black Friday sales so you’ll probably find the stuff that you’re looking for at a decent price. Some things, such as Apple products, and luxury items probably won’t have any show-stopping deals.

Instead, you’ll be lucky for a five or ten percent discount. It all adds up though. Also, make sure you keep an eye out for additional voucher codes and email exclusives. Also, remember that you can use your student discount as well in most cases.

Is it worth it?

Well, that depends entirely on what you’re looking for! Black Friday is all about making your money go further. This is especially true for any Christmas shopping that you need to do.

Something to note is that sometimes, some items are actually cheaper at other times. Make sure you regularly check websites to keep an eye on prices, to make sure you don’t pay more than you’re planning to this Black Friday.
