Halloween at university is frighteningly good fun. But can be frighteningly bad for your finances too. It’s almost as big as Christmas is these days, which we all know can be expensive once you get carried away by it.

Never fear, we’re here to help you make the most of everything Halloween on a budget.

Costumes

Costumes are often the priciest part of any Halloween. If you have multiple parties coming up, don’t waste your money on buying multiple different outfits. Instead, focus all your effort on one amazing costume that can be worn throughout Halloween.

Either invest in one good costume that you can wear again and again, or make the most of stores such as Primark and opt for their budget Halloween costumes and accessories.

Decorations

If you’re hosting a party over Halloween, don’t waste all of your money on expensive decorations that will probably get damaged or go missing! Instead, think about making them yourself.

We’re talking about pipe cleaners glued to pop-poms to make spooky spiders, paper chains cut into the shape of bats. You could also frame a picture of yourself and hang it on the wall, and give your guests a real fright.

Places like Primark and Poundland are good places for affordable, Halloween on a budget decorations too.

Parties

You’ve got the decorations sorted, but what about the rest of the party? The food? The games? Don’t worry yourself too much with food, a few spooky snacks will do, there are loads of them in the shops at the moment, so take your pick. In terms of games, how about a good old fashioned apple bob?

Get a big bucket, fill it with water and some apples. You now have the classic Halloween game. Remember, no using your hands! You could also play pin the tail on the ghost, and just hope that none of your guests point out to you that ghosts don’t have tails.

Hopefully, they’ll just go with the flow and enjoy themselves. Hopefully you will too.
