You’ve settled into your new student accommodation, everything’s perfect, except for one thing – you’ve got noisy flatmates. The following is our guide on how to deal with noisy flatmates.

You can’t sleep, can’t study in your room, let alone even think! Without hearing your flatmates blasting their music or basically shouting at each other when they’re in the kitchen together. So, here’s our guide on how what to do with your noisy flatmates:

Confront Them Version 1

Most likely your flatmates don’t even realise how noisy they’re being. Just like you, they’ve moved away from home for the first time and enjoying the freedom that comes with it. So, they turn their music up louder than normal, go to bed later than normal, have friends over for longer than normal. In this situation I’d recommend that you just politely ask them to turn it down a little. Say that you’ve got a deadline coming up and would really appreciate it just being a bit quieter. More likely than not they’ll go ahead and do that for you.

Go to The Library

Going to the library is a good way to avoid your noisy flatmates

If asking them nicely doesn’t work – just as well because you’ve got a lot of work to catch up on anyways. Make use of this time by going to the library. A place renowned for how quiet it is. You’ve got less distractions at home anyways so it’s the perfect opportunity to get ahead of your assignments. You might want to go to the pub after too and see some friends. You might also want to bring your friends round after and cause some noise yourself.

Confront Them Version 2

If at first you don’t succeed, try, and try again. But really mean it this time. Okay, so you’ve got all your work out the way with for next 2 months and now you just want chill out and watch Netflix. But wait you can’t because your noisy flatmates are blasting Earth, Wind & Fire through the walls. Here I would call into the culprits’ room to have a “quiet word”. Explain to them how much of nuisance they’re being. Or even join forces with any other of your flatmates who are as equally as annoyed and call for a house meeting. Demonstrating your combined annoyance towards how noisy they’re being.

If You Can't Beat Them, Join Them

You’ve given up. It sounds like they’re having fun anyways. So, you fancy going to pub instead. Why not bring them. Have a flat night out and really get to know one another, you might even become good friends and end up causing a lot noise together. Or after becoming friends they may become more considerate, knowing that full well you can’t concentrate with the racket they’re causing.

This is how to deal with noisy flatmates

It can be a tricky issue if you don’t approach it right. If you go in head on demonstrating how furious you are towards them. That just might escalate things. I wouldn’t recommend it honestly. If you’re wanting to find ways to get to your flatmates, then check out our blogs.
