Want to get a job? Here's how to boost your CV

Most students and young people will already have one, but a CV is an important document to have. Not only will it help you to get a job, but it will also help you show off your skills and achievements to potential future employers.

The thing is though, employers see so many CVs when advertising a new post, that they will be looking for one that really stands out to them, for all the right reasons.

Be sure you get noticed with our guide on how to boost your CV.

Fix up, look smart

Try and make sure that your CV looks the best it can be visually. By this, we mean a clear, well laid out document that will be easy for recruiters and employers to read and understand. Keep to a simple and clean font like Calibri or Arial. You don’t need to go too over the top or look too fancy, as this may put employers off. Just keep it simple, yet elegant.

Add in relevant experience

If you’ve got any relevant voluntary or extra-curricular experience that you feel might be beneficial, add it to your CV! This will give you an opportunity to demonstrate to an employer that you’ve gained vital skills and experience from outside of a working environment. You can add this in as a separate section of your CV to make it stand out from your work experience section.

A top notch personal statement

A brief personal statement is a must on any CV. This short, 50-100 word paragraph should be at the beginning of the CV, and should briefly demonstrate some of your key skills and achievements. Be sure to tailor this to each and every job that you apply for.

Be sure to tailor your CV to the job

Yes, you might be applying for a lot of jobs, which is time consuming in itself, but its vital that you tailor your CV to the role that you’re applying for each and every time you apply for a job. It doesn’t have to mean a complete reinvention of your CV each and every time you apply, but it will help you to get noticed by employers.
