Nights out are a big part of the student lifestyle. If you’re not too careful, you can blow your budget quicker than you can say ‘I’ll have two jagerbombs please’. Read on for some of our top money-saving tips when it comes to going out.

Plan ahead and set yourself a limit

It might be easier said than done, but setting a budget and limiting yourself to it is a sensible way to start trying to save money. Say you’re going to a couple of after-lecture drinks with your coursemates, set a limit of £20. A bigger occasion may call for a larger budget. Try to find the right balance.

Plan where you’re going to go

Let’s face it, going to a string of cocktail bars, no matter how many 2-for-1 deals are on, isn’t going to be good for your bank account. Try and mix it up a bit, with a combination of pricier and more affordable venues. Your bank account will thank you.

Leave the card at home

We may live in an ever-more connected world, but in this case, cash is king. Take out cash from an ATM and only take said cash out with you. Remember to hide an emergency tenner for a taxi back home at the end of the night. Leave that card at home. If it’s contactless, you might want to think about contacting your bank to see if you can get a non-contactless card.

These are the best ways for saving money on a night out

Many students go for nights out when they know that they don’t have any lectures the next morning. Planning ahead and using this advice will help make sure that you (and your bank balance) will not regret going out after.
