University clearing can be a stressful process. You spent all night awake, anxiously waiting for your results to come through the post in the morning. You hear the postman post that all important letter. All of your hard work in the last 2 years has come to this moment. You unfold the letter, you begin to read. Those small letters and numbers on the page you see aren’t the small letters and numbers you want to see. You begin to stress about getting into university and then start thinking about clearing.

This article on university clearing is a guide on what to do if you’re in this position. Like thousands of other students across the country who didn’t get the grades and UCAS points they want, go through this process every year. Ultimately, although you may not get into the university you hoped for, it might turn out for the best.

Keep Calm and Carry On

Easier said than done I know, but the best thing to do in this situation is try to keep calm and not go into panic mode. You want to prevent yourself from accepting any course at any university that has a vacancy. Without thinking too much about what’s best for you.

Contact Your Firm and Insurance

contact your firm choice in university clearing

Although you may not have received the required grade into the course you want at the university you want to go to. It’s still worth contacting your firm and insurance choices and see if they will reconsider accepting you and if there’s any spaces for similar courses you’re interested in.

Look Around

Compile a list of other courses, universities and cities you could see yourself at. Do a bit of research into each of these. You might actually find that they match you and your plans much more than you originally thought.

Give Them a Call

make sure you give your uni choices a call during university clearing

At this point you’ve priortised a list on what courses you want to apply for, at what university’s. You should then look for their clearing contact numbers, you should easily find online, and then give them a call. I would recommend not leaving this too late as you might miss out on a place you like to someone else.

Sell Yourself

You’ve got on the phone with clearance at the university you’d like to go to, and they tell you they’ve got spaces left! The hard part is over, now all you have to do is explain to them why you want to be on the course and you’d be an asset to them. Think back to your personal statement and big yourself. You’ve already achieved more than you think.

University Clearing Isn’t as Stressful as it Can be

If you remain calm and approach the situation pragmatically, you’ll find a place surprisingly quite easily.
