Student life can be overwhelming at times. Deadlines often feeling like they all come at once. Sometimes it can be easy to forget to slow down. Too often, you can forget to take the time to relax and clear your head. Here are some of our simple tips to help you de-stress and make some time for some self-care.

Take a walk

There’s nothing like a walk to help clear your head. The benefits of exercise on physical as well as mental wellbeing are well known. It’s a simple and great way to get in some regular exercise as well. This is especially true if going to the gym isn’t for you.

Have a bath

Having a long soak in the tub is a great way to de-stress. A little bubble bath goes a long way, and elevates your bathing experience. It might seem obvious, but spending a while in the bath is a great way to take time out for yourself. You can’t exactly take your laptop or phone into the bathroom with you (for obvious reasons). This allows you to switch off for a while.

Netflix and chill

It’s okay to binge a series on Netflix for a while, if it helps you to relax. Obviously, if you’re watching Netflix all the time, your studies may suffer. Try to set aside some time where you can catch up on your favourite show. Don’t be too tempted to watch that extra episode though. You may come to regret it if you have deadlines coming up.

Make a plan

If you have a lot of work to do, the best way to not let it get on top of you is to make a plan. Plan what you are going to do and when. There’s a reason why you have a timetable for lectures and seminars at university. Take advantage of creating a timetable for what you want to study and when. This way, you’ll be able to manage your time more effectively. It’ll also allow you to strike the right work-life balance.

Say no to takeaway

Ordering food might be convenient, but your body and your wallet won’t thank you very much. Taking the time to plan and cook a meal from scratch can be very therapeutic. It’ll be healthier and cheaper as well. Again, if you are struggling to think of meals to make, plan in advance and make a meal plan.
