Going to university this September? Check out our guide on some of the weirdest university courses in the UK

Going to uni means that for the first time in your life, you are almost completely in control of your studies. There is a lot of independence to be had. If you want to to, you can take your studies in a highly specialised and unusual direction. There are many niche and weird university courses to choose from.

We’re not saying that you should become a specialist in something a bit obscure (think about your employability!) but it’s worth knowing that there’s a lot of choice out of there. Plus, it’s always fun to find out what wacky things you could be getting up to at uni, with a degree in it at the end as a bonus! Learn below about some weird university courses.

Yes, you read it right. If you choose to go to Manchester Metropolitan, you’ll be able to study a degree in all things Pizza Hut. The famous pizza chain teamed up with the university in 2015 to offer this course. It’s not all about eating or working in Pizza Hut though, students learn about food production, financial analysis and will prepare them for a job anywhere.

Perhaps inspired by the popularity of The Great British Bake Off, aspiring Mary Berry wannabes can hone their skills with the Baking Science and Technology (Management) course at London South Bank University. Baking is a skill for life. If you take this course, you’ll never go hungry. Plus, think of how popular you’ll be with all of your flatmates!

You could become the next Jim Henson if you take this course in Puppetry Design and Performance at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London. You’ll learn to design, create and bring your own puppets to life. Graduates from this course have gone on to work on TV and film sets around the world. Who knows, you could be working on the set of the muppets!

If you’re a lover of all things wine, then this course in Viticulture and Oenology at Plumpton College, University of Brighton is the one for you. It’s not all about drinking wine though :( You’ll find that this course is very science-based. But still, you could be working for some of the world’s best vineyards, so we think it’s worth it.

This one might seem more like a hobby than a university course and subsequent career, but why not? Hand Embroidery at the University for the Creative Arts is the course for any crafty creatures out there. You never know, you could end up working for one of the world’s most desirable fashion houses.
