University life is a lot of fun but also pretty challenging. It’s a time where your social life thrives, you get to learn about new friends and meet new people. But on the other hand, you’re also inundated with deadlines, classes, and generally learning to be an independent adult.

All this stuff means that it can be hard to stay fit and healthy. But your physical health is still vitally important, and if you neglect it, it could seriously impact your studies. Want to learn how to stay fit during university? Read on to find out.

Go to the Gym

This seems like the most obvious answer, but it’s not always as easy as it seems. Making time to hit the gym can be difficult and sometimes it’s just easier to stay in bed.

But make it a priority at least a couple of times per week. If you’re worried about cost, check with your student accommodation. Many student halls have gyms built-in that is free for residents to use, so you could save a fortune!

Do Yoga

If you’re looking for something a little less intense that is good for mind and body, give yoga a try. You don’t need much for it, just a little floor space, around 10-20 minutes.

You could find a local yoga class, or there are plenty of great yoga tutorials on YouTube that are totally free! It can help improve your strength and flexibility, and it’s great for reducing stress and anxiety, so it’s perfect during exam season!

Go Jogging

Jogging is totally free and you can do it anywhere at all. Whether you just run laps around your neighbourhood, head to a local park or even join a marathon, it’s a very freeing activity.

It costs nothing to do and while it may be hard to get into at first, many people get hooked on that runners’ high. Stick in some headphones and listen to some music or a podcast and it can be the perfect way to unwind and get fit.

Start Cycling

Cycling is a great sport and whether you live in a big city or small town, it’s a great way to get around. There are so many benefits to cycling, it improves your cardio, helps you lose weight, and reduces your carbon footprint.

You can bring your bike from home or look for secondhand websites for cheap bikes in your area. It’s a small investment that could make a big difference to your fitness.

Join a Club

Pretty much every university has a wealth of clubs and societies, and lots of them are sports-oriented. Check out your university website to see which sports clubs you could join.

They welcome people who are newbies and experienced, so no need to feel out of place. There are lots of different sports to choose from and getting involved in a group sport could be the ideal way to make new friends while getting fit.
