1. Learn About the History

The best way to learn more about a city is to understand the history of it. Start off with a trip to the SeaCity Museum where you can learn all about the strong links Southampton has to the sea and how it has shaped its history.

The Tudor House and Garden is the first museum in Southampton and shows what life for English people was like back in Tudor times. It’s home to an extensive collection of treasures and artefacts and makes for a fascinating day out.

2. See a Show

If you’re a fan of theatre and live performances, Southampton is a great place for you to be. The Mayflower Theatre is a 90 year old theatre that still hosts regular, high quality performances regularly. 

This theatre hosts a range of world famous productions, such as Les Miserables, West Side Story and Hairspray. But if you’d prefer smaller productions, they also have them here and help support the local arts. It’s the perfect place to take a date of go with friends on a Friday night, and it doesn’t have to cost too much either.

3. Head to the Beach

Southampton is a seaside town which means you can’t live here without visiting the beach. Nearby is Calshot beach which has a fun activity centre as well as a range of water sports to try out too. What makes it better is Calshot Castle which sits at the end of the beachfront and is a great place to visit on the weekends.

You can also explore Weston Hard Woolston which is near to the Port of Southampton and is a convenient place to spend a sunny summer day.

4. See Some Art

If you love arts and culture, Southampton has a lot to offer you. The Southampton Art Gallery is home to a range of amazing contemporary and 20th century British and Wester art. The pieces here span from the Renaissance period all the way up to the present and there’s a lot to see here.

For more local art, head to the Art House, a cafe/community space serving up tasty homemade veggie meals and showcases local art and exhibitions.

5. Enjoy the Foodie Scene

Southampton has a fantastic foodie scene that you need to sink your teeth into. Oxford Street is home to a range of amazing restaurants and cafes serving up food for all tastes and preferences. 

If you’re looking for Eastern cuisine, head to Kohinoor of Kerala for some tasty traditional Indian dishes. With everything from the Far East to Western cuisines available, you’ll never go hungry here.
