Yes, this is a real place name. Just a short train journey across the Swellies, you’ll arrive at one of the longest named places in the UK and Europe, with a long station sign to boot. Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch was named so allegedly because of an early publicity stunt to give the station the longest name of any railway station in Britain. However it got its name, Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is a lovely place to visit. It’s referred to by the locals as Llanfair PG, for ease.

This beautiful, Grade II listed 19th Century pier is the ninth longest in Britain and is great for a pleasant stroll out along the promenade. There are excellent views to be had of the breathtaking Menai Strait, especially on clear, sunny days. There’s a 50p entrance fee onto the pier, but once you see the views, you’ll think it’s well worth it.

This means that you could easily split the route up into several days or across several weekends. The views are said to be absolutely stunning. If you’re a fan of the countryside, be sure to don your walking boots, or get on your bike, and explore The North Wales Path.
