Student life is one that requires a lot of saving up and making that student loan last with a good budget. But no matter how well we budget, we all reach a point where we can’t spend anything else and we’re totally broke.

Being a broke student can make it hard to find things to do during your free time. There’s only so much TV you can watch and you want something else to do without spending much.

Here are 5 fun things you can do while waiting for your next student loan instalment to come through.

Host a Movie Night

One fun and free way for any broke student to have a great evening is to host a movie night. Call some friends over, get Netflix at the ready, close the curtains and enjoy a movie night.

You could have a horror night, comedy night, or a rom-com night – whatever you want! Tell your friends to bring snacks and drinks and you can have a very inexpensive evening right from your student accommodation.

Cook a Meal

If you can’t afford to get a shop in yet, you can still cook a meal with what you already have. Get creative from the ingredients you do have and see what you can come up with. Or, host a dinner party and get your guests to bring an ingredient of their own.

It could be a huge success or a total disaster, but either way, it will be a fun way to spend your evening without having to spend a penny.

Explore Your City

Whether you’re studying abroad or just moved from around the corner, a great way to spend a few hours is by exploring your new city.

Walk to the places you wouldn’t normally go to and venture further beyond the places you’re used to going. You could find some amazing hidden gems along the way and it’ll help you feel more at home in your new space.

Go to Museums and Art Galleries

If you’re studying in the UK, you’ll find that most cities and towns have their own museums and galleries, many of which are actually free to visit. These are great places to spend a few hours and you can learn so much about your city.

It’s a great activity to do alone or with friends and you can spend many hours walking around some. It’s the perfect thing to do on a rainy day and you often won’t need to spend a penny

Host a Games Night

A games night is a great way to socialise, have fun and have a lot of laughs without spending much. Whether you have board games or video games, invite friends around and get them to bring their own games too.

Challenge each other and get competitive, but remember to chill out and have fun! These nights can often end up lasting for hours and you won’t need to pay a thing.
