Moving isn’t always a piece of cake and there’s always something you end up forgetting. Whether it’s small things like cutlery or big things like a duvet, you don’t want to get caught out when you arrive.

Pots and Pans

When you first get to university, you may think your student accommodation will provide these essentials. Or, they thought may have never even crossed your mind! Either way, it can be quite a shock when you arrive and have nothing to cook with.

Make sure to bring some pots and pans with you to your student accommodation. You don’t need to splash out on top of the range stuff, there are plenty of great offers and deals you can find.

This way, you can get started with cooking up a feast with your flatmates. Or, you know, use them to make the first of many pasta dishes you’ll eat at university!

A Bike

Not everyone things to bring a bike when they come to university, but it can help you out a lot. Not only is cycling a great way to explore your new city, but it can save you a fortune on public transport costs.

Most student accommodation halls have secure bike parking on site. This means you won’t need to worry about finding a safe place to park it when you get back home. A bike can prove very handy when you miss the last bus home or when you’ve overslept and need to get to uni!

Make sure to bring a good helmet and a secure lock with you too. You don’t want to risk hurting yourself or losing your bike at any point.

First Aid Kit

You may have never owned a first aid kit of your own before, but now is a great time to invest in one. A basic first aid kit can prove to be very useful when the dreaded fresher’s flu hits. Plus, it’s always useful to have around in case of emergency.

You should also bring with you some basic first aid knowledge. You never know when someone could get hurt or sick and you could very well save them in their moment of need.

You could even make your own makeshift first aid for colds and flus. Pack some painkillers, lemsips, lozenges and nasal spray to help when illness strikes.

Ear Plugs

This is one that many people forget and regret almost instantly. If you’re living in student halls or shared accommodation, things can get pretty noisy.

It’s all fun and games when you’re all enjoying a night out with your new flatmates. But soon the day will come when you’re trying to sleep and your flatmates come in at 2am waking you up.

You don’t want to show up to lectures on very little sleep. Ear plugs are the best way to block out the noise and get a good night sleep.

Clothes Hangers

Another small thing that you may forget to bring with you is enough coat hangers. This is a small thing but if you don’t bring them it can be a small nightmare! Your clothes get all crumpled up and you don’t want to look a mess on your first night out!

If you do forget them once you arrive, you can pick them up pretty cheap from a pound shop or bargain store. In relation to clothes, make sure you bring a good waterproof raincoat with you too – you are in the UK after all!
