There are so many things you could do with this time, and once uni is finished you’ll never have time off like this again! That’s why it’s so important not to waste this opportunity.

Need some help getting inspired for your summer break? Read on for our 5 tips for how you can spend your summer breaks as a student.

1. Study Abroad

What better way to kick off your summer than by heading off to another country for it all? You may not love the idea of going right back into studying over your summer, but it is an amazing adventure to study abroad.

Many universities offer summer programmes where they can send you overseas for the summer break, or even as long as a whole year! You could travel to your dream destination and make it your new home for a short while.

Not only will you be studying, you’ll be meeting people from all around the world and experiencing a whole new country as a resident instead of a student. Studying abroad can offer you new opportunities and improve your future job prospects, so it’s definitely something to consider.

2. Get an Internship

You shouldn’t wait till you leave university to think about your next career move, the best time to do it is while you’re still there. Use your summer break to take an internship at a company or in a field you want to work in.

It will teach you valuable skills for that industry and help you make connections that could prove invaluable once you graduate.

If you do a good job over the summer, there’s a chance they could ask you to return full time once you finish with university.

3. Work

It’s not the rest and relaxation you may have had in mind, but working over your summer break could be a great way to get some savings behind you and keep yourself out of your overdraft!

There are a lot of different jobs you can get easily as a student, from bar and cafe work to retail or even work at festivals! You get to learn new skills and add experience to your CV which can help you bag a job after uni too.

You’ll be especially thankful you worked when the semester rolls around and you’re not living solely on your student loans!

4. Volunteer

Volunteering is a great way to get out there and do some good for the world. It’s an enriching experience and it will look great on your CV.

Most universities can help get you great volunteering placements both at home and abroad. Whether you want to teach disadvantaged kids or save turtles in Greece, there are so many things you can do.

There are a lot of ways to do it that are cheap or don’t cost much. They offer an eye opening experience and you’ll feel great for doing it!

5. Travel

Another great way to spend your summer at university is to get out there and explore the world. Sitting around in your student accommodation all summer won’t leave you with incredible memories or experiences.

Take this time to go travelling. Go on a train adventure around Europe or go backpacking in South East Asia. The world is your oyster and what better time to go exploring it than now?

Travel lets you meet people from all around the world and gain new skills along the way. Whether you take a trip with friends or go solo, it’s an enriching experience you won’t regret.
