If you’re studying abroad, there’s a good chance you’ll want to do some travelling during your time away. This means that you’ll be going to a lot of airports and getting on a lot of flights.

But as anyone who travels knows well, flying isn’t always a stress-free experience. There are many factors that can make it a nightmare: delays, missed connections, extortionate airport prices and more.

We’re here to help. Here are a few useful airport and flight tips every student needs to know if they plan to travel.

Invest in a Power Bank

When you travel, you need your phone to have power in case anything goes wrong, for entertainment, and even for your boarding pass. If it runs out of juice while you’re in transit, it could mean big trouble.

You might have your charger with you, but it’s not always easy to find a free power socket. Make sure to invest in a battery power bank that you can take with you on the go. They will help you keep your devices at full charge without worry.

Book Ahead of Time

We all love the idea of booking a last minute flight and jetting off on a whim, but it’s not financially very feasible. The best time to book flights and accommodation is around 50 days before you plan to go.

Prices are often the cheapest around this time, but the general rule is that you should book further ahead of time the further you plan to travel. Also, try to look out for budget airlines instead of big name brands. This will save you a lot of money and stress in the long run.

Clear Your Cache

When you book flights or accommodation, booking sites remember your IP address and often hike the price up every time you visit. This means you aren’t getting an accurate price and could be getting a much cheaper deal.

Instead, make sure to clear your browser cache and go in incognito mode to get the real prices on the site. This will end up saving you a lot of cash.

Look Out For Student Discounts

As a student, there are many discounts you could take advantage of. Make sure to check online for the best student discounts for hostels, hotels, luggage, and transport wherever you can.

All you need to do is provide proof of your student status (i.e your student card, student visa, etc). It could allow you to do much more than you thought you could and will be very useful.

Download Podcasts and TV Shows

Never rely on the plane for in-flight entertainment – always download your own. Download things like podcasts and TV shows onto your phone or laptop and make sure to bring some noise-cancelling headphones with you too.

You also never know how long you could be delayed for at the airport, and there’s not much in terms of entertainment there. This will help you stay entertained while you wait and save you from going mad with boredom!
