They’re a big part of Christmas, and one of the easiest and most distinctive gifts you can give someone, but Terry’s Chocolate Oranges are great for baking with too. The unmistakable orangey, chocolatey taste makes them great for adding to a myriad of recipes.

This recipe is good for Christmas, but is also just as delicious year-round too! Your chocolate orange cookies recipe.

Ingredients

2 x Terry’s chocolate oranges, cut into small chunks, save some segments for the top! You can also get bags of mini chocolate orange segments if you prefer to have larger chunks.

200g Brown sugar

165g plain flour

110g butter (salted or unsalted), left to soften at room temperature for a bit.

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract or essence

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

Pinch of salt

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 190°C (170°C if you have a fan oven) and grease two baking trays. If you prefer, you can use greaseproof paper to line your trays instead.
    Then…
  2. Cream together your butter, sugar and vanilla using a whisk until the mixture is smooth and creamy.

  3. Add your egg and beat the mixture together.

  4. Add the rest of your ingredients, except for the chunks of chocolate orange, and mix until everything comes together in a dough.

  5. Next, add in your chocolate orange chunks, saving some for the tops of your cookies, and mix thoroughly.

  6. Divide your dough into 10-12 evenly sized balls and place evenly on to your greased baking trays.

  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes. Take out the oven and transfer them on to a wire cooling rack and allow to cool.

Why not go all out and add a segment of chocolate orange to the top of each one of your cookies after they have cooled? You could even add a segment to each cookie two minutes before they’re finished in the oven for a slightly soft, gooey surprise! Mmm, tasty!
