Newcastle is an amazing city to work, live and visit at any time of the year, but it is at Christmas when the city really comes to life. There is so much to see and do around the city, with Christmas delights around almost every corner.

Some are Newcastle christmas fixtures and are probably already well known to you, but there are also some Christmas treats tucked away in places you may never even have heard of. Read on for our Christmas in Newcastle what’s on guide.

Fenwick's Window

Newcastle’s very own answer to the likes of Harrod’s and Selfridges, Fenwicks, is world-famous for its amazing window display. It might not sound like much, but to any geordie, it’s a big part of Christmas.

Since 1971, Fenwicks have been transforming their windows along Northumberland street into a winter wonderland, drawing people from far and wide. Make sure you get your picture took by this year’s window, no Christmas in Newcastle is complete without it!

Ice skating at Times Square

No, we haven’t magically jumped to New York, Newcastle has it’s own Times Square as well. Every year, the Centre for Life plays host to a huge outdoor ice rink. This is always a popular choice.

Make sure you get your skates on and get down to the Times Square ice rink today! For all the latest opening times and prices, make sure you check out the Centre for Life’s website.

Newcastle Christmas Market

Newcastle’s Christmas Market just keeps getting bigger and bigger each year, and this year it’s bigger than ever! Stretching all the way down Northumberland Street, Blackett Street, Monument and Grey Street, there are over 70 stalls to choose from.

Expect Christmas crafts, bratwursts, mulled wine and much more! There’s even a helter-skelter, merry-go-round and toboggan run this year!

24 Doors of Christmas

First run in 2018, and back again for another year, 24 Days of Christmas is a wildly popular even ran by NE1. Each day during December until the 24th, a different Newcastle business, attraction or organisation will be opening its doors to the public for free.

This year’s highlights include the Gateshead Millenium Bridge, BBC Newcastle and the Tyne Theatre and Opera House. It’s free to visit any of the 24 doors of Christmas, but booking is essential! Visit their website to book now!
