Fish and Chips

We’ll get this one out of the way first, since most people around the world are at least aware of it. Fish and chip shops are on any British high street. But you can also get some top notch fish and chips in many high-end restaurants too.

This can be a heavy dish and it’s not a healthy one, but it really does live up to the hype. There’s no better combination than a big battered fish, a portion of chips, and mushy peas all served with lashings of malt vinegar.

This dish is best served from a chip shop, in the paper wrappings, preferably by the beach!

Sunday Roast

A Sunday roast is a classic among most British households and it’s something many Brits look forward to. In fact, 43% of Brits list a Sunday lunch as their ultimate comfort dish!

Of course, you can have a Sunday roast any day of the week, and its a very popular pub lunch option.

A Sunday roast is a very filling and hearty meal. Its often served with some type of meat: often beef, chicken, lamb or pork. It comes with vegetables such as carrots, peas, potatoes, broccoli etc. all smothered in gravy.

There are some variations on this, but that’s the general gist of it. It’s the perfect dish to line your stomach with before a night out or to enjoy at the pub with friends. If you’re feeling confident, you could even try making it at home yourself!

Full English Breakfast

A full English breakfast is in no way a healthy one. But when you’ve got a stinking hangover that won’t go away, this is a sure cure for it. There are different variations as you go around the UK: a Scottish, Irish and Welsh breakfast. But as a whole, they remain pretty similar.

A full English consists of sausages, beans, eggs, toast, fried tomatoes, hash browns, and black pudding. It comes served on an enormous plate, so you’d better be hungry when you order it!

Lots of restaurants and pubs serve it as an all day breakfast, so don’t worry if the hangover keeps you in bed past noon! It’s also pretty easy to make at home too, so you can always try your hand at making it yourself.

Chicken Tikka Masala

Chicken tikka masala is a British-Indian classic and was created in Glasgow, Scotland, in the 1970s. It’s still served in Indian restuarants around the UK to this day.

It’s a simple dish made for British tastes and everyone can enjoy it. It’s made with roasted marinated chicken chunks in a spiced, creamy curry sauce. You’ll find it in virtually every Indian takeaway and restaurant, and it’s the perfect dish to order in and enjoy with a beer and some trashy TV.
