1. Taste the Food

But for some real food, you’re spoilt for choice. Grab a burger and beer from Hubbox where as soon as you take your first bite you’ll be in heaven. If you’re looking for authentic British pub grub, head on over to The Fat Pig where you’re sure to get a cracking Sunday Lunch.

2. Go Underground

Did you know that Exeter has an extensive underground tunnel system? Well it does, and you can even go and explore them! Take a tour of the underground tunnels to see a whole new side of the city.

The Exeter Underground Passages were originally made to pump water through the city back in Medieval times, and now it makes for a great afternoon adventure! It’s a fantastic learning experience and something you need to do when you come to Exeter.

3. Explore Powderham Castle

Did you really come to England if you didn’t visit a castle? Luckily, when you live in Exeter you don’t have to travel far to find one. This castle has origins reaching back to 1391 and was remodelled in the Victorian era for the Earl of Devon.

The castle itself is gorgeous and there are expansive gardens to explore on a sunny day too. It’s a great way to learn more about the history of Exeter and there are so many fascinating stories to hear.

4. Catch a Gig

If you’re a music lover who can’t get enough of live performances, Exeter is the place for you. Exeter may be a small city, but they sure know how to put on a good show. 

The music scene is very much alive here and there’s something for everyone. Your local pub is sure to have local bands playing on a regular basis, and if you want something more make sure to head to the Cavern. With everything from indie to metal and even drum and bass, there really is so much to rock out to.

5. Visit the Pubs

You probably know that the British love going to pubs, and you’ll find some amazing ones here in Exeter. Along the historic quayside of Exeter there are a plethora of amazing pubs both traditional and hip.

For a fantastic view and a great pint of beer, head on over to Mill on the Exe. If wine is your tipple, get a glass over at Hour Glass instead. There are so many to choose from and it’s perfect for those student nights out.
