Parties are way of student life and at some point or another, you’re going to end up hosting one. So why not host a party in student accommodation? There is no better place for it.

Once you’ve checked that it’s okay with your accommodation block to host a party, you need to start planning for it. What makes a good party in student accommodation ? How much booze should you provide? What kind of music will you play? There’s a lot to think about.

Don’t worry, we are here to help. Read on for our guide to throwing a good party in student accommodation.

Tidy Up

Nobody wants to show up to a party where there place is a pigsty. It sets the rest of the night up poorly, and how are people going to drink when all the glasses are dirty?

Before the party, make sure to have a proper spring clean and make the place look great. Enlist the help of your flatmates and get them to do their bit too. Within no time you’ll have the place looking shiny and new and people will feel much more welcome there.

Get The Right Tunes Going

The playlist to any party is always a tricky minefield to navigate. You never know what exact music everyone likes, to go for a mix.

Get music going that makes people want to dance – don’t go for ballads or slow songs as they are sure to shut down the good vibes. Or at least leave the ballads for the end of the night when everyone is sloshed!

If you have Spotify, make sure to create a shared playlist and get your guests to add their own songs to the mix before the party starts. That way, everyone gets something they like!

Provide Some Booze (But Not All Of It)

It’s good party host etiquette to provide some booze for the guests, but you’re a student, so don’t worry too much about it.

Pick up a crate or two of beer  – that should suffice. Your guests will likely bring their own booze so don’t overspend on alcohol. Everyone likes beer or cider, so these are sure to be crowd pleasers anyways.

Be Considerate

The drinks are flowing, the music is pumping and everyone is having a great time. Except, your neighbours might not be.

Make sure to be considerate with your party to avoid complaints and getting shut down. Keep the noise down and if you have any smokers going outside, don’t let them linger out there talking too loud. You don’t want to ruin it for everyone else by getting shut down or make your neighbours mad, so keep that in mind.

Have a Chill Room

A good party always has the main room where the music is going and everyone’s having a dance, but there’s always a point when you just want to relax.

Make sure there is one room that doesn’t have music blaring where people can hang out in, sit down and just have a chat. These often lead to the best and deepest conversations and you can really get to know people better.

This room could be the kitchen, living room, or even just a bedroom. It’s a great place for any party to have and it’s something worth having.
