Looking for Newcastle student day trips? Newcastle-upon-Tyne is an amazing city in the North East of England and if you’re about to become a student here, you’ll find there’s plenty to see and day trips to plan!

The city has so much to offer, so you’re never out of options if you’re looking for Newcastle student day trips. The North East has everything: a stunning coastline, rich cultural history, and fantastic towns and countryside.

Wondering what the best places to visit on a student day trip in Newcastle? Read on to find out.

One of the most beautiful parts of the North East is the amazing coastline we have here. In less than half an hour on the Metro, you can go right from the bustling city centre to the tranquil seaside.

Start off your trip by heading over to Tynemouth. Make sure to come here on the weekend so you can catch the famous market held right on the platforms of the Metro station. Explore the stands from local small businesses and see what’s on offer. Then head onto Front Street and pop into the church market and the kitschy shops along the way. Grab some of the famous fish and chips from Marshalls and take them along to the seafront where you’ll get a gorgeous view over Tynemouth Priory and the sandy shores.

From here it doesn’t take long to walk past Cullercoats over to Whitley Bay. Explore the shop and bars of Whitley Bay before finishing it off with a pint at Left Luggage Room at the Monkseaton Metro Station. The coast makes for an amazing day out and you’ll certainly come back time and time again.

We mentioned Beamish Museum over in our Arts and Culture guide, but in case you missed it we’ll explain what it is. Beamish museum is an open air museum which shows you what life was like for people in the North East back in the 1800-1900s.

It’s an immersive experience where the sights and smells make you feel as if you were really there. The old Victorian schoolhouse often has Victorian-style lessons, the Farmhouse has real pigs you on the land, and there’s even a Victorian sweet shop and bakery you can buy good from. It’s a whole day out you’ll be sure to remember and the volunteers can teach you a lot about what life was like then.

Did you know that Tyne and Wear used to be a part of Northumberland? It isn’t anymore, but the beauty of Northumberland isn’t far away. If you can get ahold of a car for the day, or plan a train route well, you can get into Northumberland and explore the incredible countryside.

The sheer amount of places to visit and explore in Northumberland is too much to include here, but make sure to do your research. There’s something for everyone here, whether you’re a foodie, a history buff or a nature lover.

A part of Northumberland that we have to talk about here is, of course, Alnwick Castle. This castle is one of the most iconic in the UK and has been used in films and TV shows like Harry Potter and Downton Abbey.

It has a rich and fascinating history you’ll love to learn about, as well as regular exhibitions and events nights. It’s one of those places you must visit while you’re in the North East and while you’re here you should explore the quaint little town of Alnwick.

An area of Newcastle which deserves a mention all on its own is Ouseburn. There are so many amazing bars and cafes here that are definitely worth taking a day to explore. The best part about Ouseburn is that it’s right in the city of Newcastle, you only have to travel to Manors or Byker to get there!

It’s the creative hotspot of Newcastle with plenty of creative spaces and even a farm to enjoy when you come to visit. Head to some of the best bars around such as The Cluny and The Ship. It’s also home to the Seven Stories museum of children’s literature, and the Biscuit Factory is close by as well.
