The original castle had links to Robin Hood, and they have also been lost, but never forgotten. The Nottingham Castle that stands today is a museum and art gallery which attracts many tourists. It has underground caves to explore too and a fantastic view over the city from the top.
2. Visit England’s Oldest Inn
England is famous for its pubs and bars, and where better to start than with the oldest inn in England? Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem has been around since 1189 (allegedly), and is still very well loved to this day.
It’s a great place to grab a pint and a tasty meal, and it’s rumoured to have ghosts there too! Whether you believe in it or not, it can be a fun experience to go ghost hunting here. Come rain or shine, this pub will always welcome you inside.
3. Go to a Gig
You might not know it, but Nottingham is a fantastic venue for music lovers and there are a lot of great places to see a gig. Jam Cafe is one of the most famous places to see a gig: a small cafe that turns into a rocking venue by night.
You can also head to places like The Chameleon or JT Soar for other music nights in quirky locations. They are great places to enjoy live music and there really is something for all tastes here.
4. Hit up the Bars
Nottingham also has some fantastic bars for you to visit so make sure to tick as many off the list as possible. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing pint or vibrant cocktails, there’s a place for that here.
The Boilermaker is a great speakeasy-type bar that hides behind an unmarked door. When you step inside, you’ll be greeted by staff who know everything there is to know about making a great cocktail.

5. See Some Art
If you love art and need to get your fix in Nottingham, don’t worry. Nottingham Contemporary is a – you guessed it – contemporary art gallery in Nottingham that is well worth a visit.
The building has a striking and recognisable style (that not everyone loves) which makes it easy to spot. Inside, they host a huge range of international modern art that’s completely free for everyone to see. Exhibitions are always changing and it’s a great place to spend a few hours between lectures.
