1. Visit Cardiff Castle

You can’t come to Wales and not visit a castle, and where better place to start than Cardiff Castle? Cardiff Castle dates all the way back to the 11th century (and foundations go back to 50AD) and is essentially a huge stone fortress that guards the city. 

This castle has a fascinating history behind it and you’re sure to learn so much from your visit here. Inside are opulent and grandiose furnishings and decorations that will leave you in complete awe.

Not only is it a great historical location, but they also host many festivals and gigs on a regular basis, so keep an eye out for tickets!

2. Check out Cardiff Bay

Cardiff Bay is actually the largest waterfront development in Europe and there’s so much to do there. You can take a boat tour where you can get the best view over the iconic skyline of Cardiff.

When you’re back on land, check out the old docks and go to Craft in the Bay where you can see some local Welsh crafts on display. The Norwegian Church Arts Centre, Techniquest and Pierhead all sit along the bay too, so it’s definitely worth checking out. 

 There are also a whole host of great bars, cafes, restaurants and theatres down by Cardiff Bay, so make sure you go to check them out too.

3. See a Show at the Millennium Centre

If you love nothing more than a great performance, the newly built Millennium Centre is the place for you. From musicals to dramas, comedy and more, this venue hosts every kind of performance you could imagine.

4. Go on a Pub Crawl

Most students love to go out on the town and hit up the best bars, and Cardiff is happy to accommodate. This city has a lot of great nightlife spots and you’re sure to find many great places you’ll keep coming back to.

Some of these include Dirty Martini, the first one outside of London, where you can enjoy some world-class cocktails amongst some stylish decor. Ten Mill Lane is another popular nightlife spot, especially among students, and offer a laid back kind of evening.

5. Visit the National Museum Cardiff

If you love history and culture and want to know more about Cardiff, make sure you head to the National Museum Cardiff. It’s the perfect place to go on a relaxing weekend or to hide away from the rain in!
Here, they have a great contemporary art collection as well as natural history exhibitions and Evolution of Wales galleries. It’s a great way to learn about the landscape and history of Wales as well as the world itself.

They even have dinosaur and woolly mammoth skeletons displayed in all their glory, so make sure to check it out!
