You’ve worked hard at university, hoping that you get that much-vaunted 2:1 degree that so many jobs seem to want, and you come out with a 2:2 degree overall. It may feel like the end of the world, but as one door closes, another one opens.

Find out what to do if you get a 2:2 degree and why you shouldn’t feel like it’s the end of the world after all.

It’s not the end of the world

You might be disappointed with your overall result, and worry that you might not be able to get a job as a result. There are plenty of places that will accept graduates with a 2:2 degree, however. Many big firms have become much more flexible in their recruitment of graduates.

Another thing to remember is that you will be able to demonstrate your commitment and skills learned to an employer, which will hopefully impress.

Gain experience and contacts

In order to boost your CV, and your profile, consider taking on work experience. There is a lot out there.

Consider internships or paid placements to further boost your CV, as well as your chances of getting a job that you thought you’d only be able to obtain with a 2:1 degree. See if you can use websites such as Linkedin to make connections and network, in order to see what is out there.

Consider further study

If you haven’t achieved the grade that you were hoping for, consider further study. A postgraduate course is a great way to boost your chances of doing well. It’ll show that you are willing to try and improve and push yourself, which will look good in the eyes of any employer. Who knows, you might do even better the second time.

This is what you can do if you get a 2:2
