When you come to university, from day one you’ll be meeting all kinds of people from all around the country and the world. Some of these people will end up becoming good friends and others…not so much.

But uni is the perfect time to interact with people you normally wouldn’t and experience a whole new outlook on life. No matter which university you go to, there are always the same kinds of people you’ll encounter.

Read on to learn about the 5 kinds of people you’re sure to meet when you come to university.

1. The Couple

Without fail, every year of Fresher’s bring with it a new couple. Sometimes, they’re highschool sweethearts and other times, they only met a few days ago in their student halls, but are convinced they’ve found The One. But either way, they’re a couple and they want you to know about it.

You never see one without the other and they seem to be glued to each other’s side. You can’t escape the PDA and they talk as if they’re already a married couple.

The Couple like to talk about how amaaaaaazing being in a relationship is and how being single must be the worst. Sometimes their relationship is true love and other times, it’s over within a month, but you will definitely meet The Couple once you arrive.

2. The Borrower

The borrower is someone you’ll probably end up living with, and they may be lovely and charming. One day, they will ask you if they can use your milk or some bread, and being the lovely person you are, you’ll say yes.

From then on, the Borrower will ask for more and more, saying they only need ‘a bit’ or will pay you back (but never do). Once they have what they need, they will disappear until they need something else to borrow.

It’s nice to be nice, but unless you want to share everything you buy with The Borrower, you need to know when to say no.

3. The Gym Guy

Going to the gym is a great way to stay healthy and get into good shape. But when you come to university, you can bet you’ll meet the Gym Guy.

Gym Guy is someone who bases their whole personality around the fact they go to the gym. Gym Guy will let you know how much he goes and what weight he presses within minutes of meeting you.

Their social media is filled with workout posts, meal prep and protein shakes, as well as their latest #inspo for their #gains. They treat their lifestyle as a religion, and you never need to scope out the Gym Guy, he’ll let you know as soon as possible.

(Gym Guy is not to be confused with…)

4. Rugby Lad

Instead of telling you about their daily workout, the Rugby Lad will tell your about the latest Fresher they ‘hazed’. Rugby lad is similar to Gym Guy, but he’s all about, you guessed it, rugby.

Rugby Lad never misses a game or a match, and the varsity match is like Christmas for him. You’ll often find them in a pack of other Rugby Lads and you’ll wonder how they manage to stay in uni since they never, ever turn up for classes.

They live in Nandos and often treat drinking as a professional sport. You’ll see them in the SU a lot and they can be very loud when they roll back home at 3am. Don’t worry though, if you get along with the Rugby Lad, they are sure to have your back as an honorary member.

5. The Ghost

You know they exist because there’s a door you occasionally see a light behind and hear footsteps sometimes, but you never actually see them.

They scurry to the kitchen at 3 in the morning, and sometimes you’ll hear their door open and close in the middle of the day when you thought the flat was empty. You’ll notice that the remote is in a different place from where it was left, and food will come and go in the fridge.

The Ghost doesn’t want to be seen or heard, but don’t take it personally. Every now and then, the Ghost may like a knock on their door for a chat, or you can leave your door open to catch a glimpse of the elusive figure.
