One of the main traditions at Christmas time is the mighty Christmas Dinner. The traditional Sunday roast is elevated into one of the most hotly anticipated and most enjoyable meals of the year.

Many students like to gather their flatmates or friends together in December time to have their own Christmas dinner together. But how can you do it on a student budget?

You don’t have the money to put on a Christmas dinner like the one you have back at home, but you don’t need to. There are loads of tips and tricks out there to make sure that you put on just as good a Christmas dinner whilst at uni.

Buy frozen

This is one of the main ways that you can save money on Christmas dinner with your flatmates. Buying frozen is also a great way to save time. Think about buying frozen vegetables. Go for ones that have already been chopped or peeled to save some time!

One of the main items to save your money on is the turkey. By buying a frozen turkey, you’ll be able to save loads compared to fresh. Just don’t forget to defrost it the day before!

Chip in

You don’t have to do all of this on your own. Your friends and flatmates should be contributing to this Christmas sinner as well. As them all to bring some money to help cover the costs of your feast.

You could even set up a PayPal so that they can send you the money beforehand. You could also ask people to contribute different starters, desserts and side dishes too.

BYOB

When it comes to alcohol, you don’t need to provide much, if anything. Just let everyone know that your Christmas Dinner is BYOB, or bring your own bottle. This way, you can spend less on drink and more on food and other things such as Christmas crackers.

Plus, guests can bring as much or as little alcohol as they wish, and even share it with others, if they’re feeling festive!

If you want to get creative, you can follow our mulled wine recipe or chocolate orange recipe.
